The
Chris Honch Memorial Scholarship
A scholarship has been established in the
name of Chris Honch. This scholarship is a
part of the legacy that Chris leaves us.
Every year one eligible student will receive
a scholarship to attend college. In honor of
Chris’ spirit and personality, our hope is
to find a student that shows a similar zest
for life and people. Grade point average is
not a top concern for our requirements. More
important is the quality of the person and
his or her love of family and friends. A
goal of majoring in finance or accounting is
helpful, but not mandatory.
The application and letters of
recommendation will be reviewed each year by
the family and friends of Chris Honch. The
recipient will be chosen based on these
letters to find a person who shows similar
qualities as Chris, a love of people,
sports, and finance.
Chris’ life ended much too early due to an
undetected heart condition. However, it
never slowed him down. In the 36 years he
lived, he enjoyed every moment to the
fullest. His friends tell stories in the
legacy website of always laughing, always
playing, always visiting a family or friend,
always helping everyone, and never being
afraid to take a risk.
He had a goal to live in Manhattan and work
in finance, and he didn’t stop until he
reached it and would settle for nothing
less. He had high goals and aggressive work
ethic, but a quiet dignity and humility. He
always had time for the people that he loved
and made each one of us feel special.
These are the qualities we are looking for
in our scholarship recipients. We can never
replace or forget Chris, but we know he
would want to help and reward someone with
the same goals and values in life. He would
want to encourage a person with a specific
goal to go for it, and never settle for
less. You can make it, and this is our
chance to help you.
The recipient of the first annual
Chris Honch Memorial Scholarship
2008 was Miss
Jordan Romano.
This gracious and amazing
student most exemplified the loving
spirit and zest for life that Chris
always showed. She will be using
her scholarship to help with expenses as
she pursues her dreams and higher
education at the prestigious Georgia
Institute of Technology. The
scholarship was given to Jordan at the
Etowah High School Scholarship Award
Ceremony held on May 27, 2008. We
will keep in touch with Jordan and her
future successes.
Good
luck, Jordan!
Also,
Defibrillators were donated to Etowah
High School in Woodstock, GA and
Hampton Bays High School in
2008.
